![]() Types of Braces/BracketsDr. Frey offers a variety of options in styles of braces or brackets, from the traditional metal brackets to a less visible type. Check out the choices and discuss the options at your first visit. Metal Braces >> Click here to see how different color elastics can brighten your smile Metal braces or brackets are the most common type and are made of high-grade stainless steel. For patients involved in contact sports and for durability, metal braces are a must. They are much different than the large bulky appliances of years past. Today's metal braces are much smaller, more comfortable and less noticeable. You also have the option of adding color to your braces at each visit—a fun way to brighten your smile.Gold Braces Gold braces are stainless steel brackets coated with 24 karat gold. They are popular with patients of all ages because they add a little "bling" to your smile. Damon 3 System BracesDr. Frey offers the latest, most technically advanced style of "silver" braces today. The newest type is the Damon 3 System. This system uses a slide mechanism, not the conventional elastics, to hold the arch wire in place. This eliminates much of the friction and binding during active tooth movement. The brackets are a combination of clear material and stainless steal, providing exceptional aesthetics. Clear Braces
Unlike ceramic braces that are opaque, the clear brackets we offer are crystal clear and virtually disappear onto the tooth. These "ice" brackets won't stain or discolor and are completely transparent. The clear braces are a popular choice for our adult patients and some teens.Invisalign® New advances in orthodontics make it possible to have braces that are practically invisible! Invisalign is a state-of-the-art alternative to traditional braces that is virtually undetectable to other people. Invisalign straightens your teeth without brackets or wires, just a series of clear, customized removable appliances called "aligners". These aligners are not recommended for children and some adults. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system.
Dr. Frey has been trained in Align Technology and is a Certified Invisalign Provider. If you are considering this option for your orthodontic treatment he will be able to determine if Invisalign is right for you at your examination and conference. Once this is determined, Dr. Frey will develop a precise treatment plan. Next Invisalign will use their 3D computer imaging technology to translate these instructions into a sequence of finely calibrated aligners. Patients wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks and only remove them for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. You will visit Dr. Frey once every 6 weeks to ensure your treatment is progressing as planned. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move gradually—week by week, until they reach their final alignment prescribed by Dr. Frey.
